“Ron…” Harry started. “You know Malfoy….” He scratched the back of his neck, more than nervous. “Well….
“But…It’s MALFOY!!!“ Ron growled. He could feel himself getting angry, despite the fact that he knew that he should be supportive right now - after all, Harry was his best friend and he was clearly confused. But a big part of Ron couldn’t help feeling cross that Harry would snog someone who seemed to go out of his way to make all their lives a little bit worse.
“The git who’s hated you since first year, who makes fun of my family and called Hermione a -” He let the unspoken word, mudblood, hang in the air for a moment before continuing through gritted teeth, “The complete dick who’s part of a family that would probably hand you in to You-know-who without a second thought…But it’s ‘better than punching him’??!!”
Hermione sat still as Ron became angrier and angrier at Harry. She didn’t know what to do to make Ron understand. When Ron reminded them of how Malfoy called her a… a.. mudblood, she tensed and held her hands together trying to control herself. When Ron finished, you could almost see the steam coming out of his ears and his face was bright red.
Hermione lifted her hand to place it on Ron’s, she looked at him with calm and loving eyes. “Ron please.. Sit. It was just a mistake. Don’t be mad at Harry. He’s still your best friend, even if he made a bad choice. You should at least try to be happy for him..” She said slowly. And with her words you could see Ron’s face go from a bright red to a lighter pink. She sighed in relief and turned to Harry.
Harry heart seemed to break a bit. Even though he expected this response from Ron, needless to say…it still hurt. “I didn’t say i was suddenly in love with him, Ron!” Harry snarled. It was unnecessary to be reminded of the strife Malfoy usually put them through.
'I know what he's done, Ron. You don't have to shove my mistake in my face!” He unknowingly ignore Hermione, grateful for her calming presence but a bit preoccupied with Ron's accusations.
